So, I was out thrift shopping last week and found a vintage St. John dress (you can see to the left) for $9 total! I took the dress to my seamstress and had it appraised :) She told me the dress went for about $1500- $2000 when it was orginally bought! Not too shabby, huh?? I just love it when I find these amazing deals!! Trust me when I say that you don't always have to go to Neiman Marcus to find couture! I swear I find most my most unique pieces on a budget. You really don't have to spend a lot to have an expensive looking wardrobe!

A super thrifty and easy way to make a cute little tote for you or your daughter :)

I wanted to make my daughter a tote but didn't want to spend a lot of money on it as she is only two and has a tendency to break and lose things. :) She told me she wanted a handbag with butterflies and flowers on it. I ended up going to the Dollar Tree and picked up one brown placemat, a four-yard spool of grosgrain ribbon, one package of light-pink flower applique/decorative ribbon, and another package of hot-pink flower applique/decorative ribbon all for a dollar each. I spent a total of $4 on this tote! I used an embroiderie machine to make the butterfly on the center of the placemat. I then sewed the grosgrain ribbon onto the placemat as they end up being the tote's straps. Next I sewed the placemat together in order to make it into a mini-tote. On the front of the tote I tied a cute little bow with the excess grosgrain ribbon. Lastly, I sewed the pink flowers on the bag and also sewed some decorative ribbon to embellish the grosgrain ribbon a bit. My daughter absolutely loves this bag and carries it everywhere!! Not bad for $4, huh? Think of all the cute things you can make with something as simple as a placemat!

Traditional wedding style back again!!

I recently went out with a long-time friend and client to help her pick out a wedding gown. Going shopping for her and just having celebrated my sixth year anniversay reminded me so much of my own wedding and bridal choices!

I noticed that this year followed the trends that I actually followed at my own wedding. I went very traditional and classic as we had a Catholic wedding in the very conservative St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. I did wear an off-the-shoulder gown but had to cover my shoulders during the actual ceremony. :)

This year refined classics are very popular along along with butterfly embellishments. The A-line dress is also very popular, which is wonderful as it's very flattering to most body types! I really think the royal wedding held earlier this year has something to do with the more traditional trends. When I got married, I wore a San Patrick gown (http://www.sanpatrick.com/). I think because I got married in Europe, I was just drawn to European designers in general. :) As far as bridesmaids dresses, jewel tones are a major hit!

From Fab to Flab... My experience of going from thin to very pregnant and not so thin!

Being pregnant has been quite the challenge for me, not only physically and emotionally, but also when it comes to the numerous wardrobe issues that I've encountered. It's very difficult gaining weight everyday and still trying to maintain your own personal style. Even though I know I look MUCH better not pregnant, I have pretty much mastered how to reflect my personal style without looking matronly.

For starters, I hardly have any maternity clothes. I do have a few sparse maternity outfits, but just started wearing them. I am 33 weeks and am starting to need it in order to cover my big belly. Other than a few maternity shirts, I have managed to do most of my pregnancy shopping at stores like Loehmann's, Forever 21, Zara, H&M, local boutiques and various consignment shops. I ended up getting great deals as these stores are pretty low-cost and have clothes that reflect my personality. I do, however, love wearing my maternity pants and jeans. Pea in a Pod has high end denim like Seven for all Mankind, Joe's, AG, etc. These jeans are amazing but do run between $200- $300. Baby Gap has really nice maternity jeans and are very reasonably priced. I even find they fit just as nice as the high-end labels.

Another tip I do have is to make sure that you buy as you grow. I am a completely different size than I was at month 5. You just never know! I actually didn't even start showing until I was about 5 months. Then I just got really big! I've been growing very aggressively ever since. If you buy too much at first, you can definitely end up wasting your money!

Something else I love to do is accessorize! I can wear a plain shirt and accessorize it in a way that it looks like a fun outfit. I have all different colored bangles, necklaces and rings. Spend as much as you want on accessories as you can't grow out of those!

Even though pregnancy has been challenging in certain aspects, overall it has been a beautiful, life-changing experience. I can't wait to meet my little girl in October!

We went to NY Fashion Week!

For all of you that don't know, Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion week was last week and we were fortunate enough to be part of it! We saw numerous celebs and were able to see the Fall 2008 line-up!

The fashion for Fall 2008 will be amazing. The 1980's are making a huge comeback with a touch of 70's glam! I couldn't be happier as I'm a big fan of 70's fashion!

We saw a lot of deep V-necks, wide stripes, tulip skirts, metallics, tons of ruffles and bows, wide sleeves, puffy sleeves, turtlenecks, and cowl neck sweaters.

Another major trend for Fall 2008 will be mixed patterns. Florals, animal prints, plaids and stripes were all featured. As far as colors, different shades of purple and blue will be the ones to wear!
